Wagering requirements are falling, but maximum bet clauses are not

Average wagering on welcome bonuses dropped to 35x this year. The restrictions buried further down the terms have tightened instead.

The average wagering requirement on the welcome offers we review is now 35 times the bonus, down from 40 times two years ago. That is real progress, and it is also only part of the picture.

The clauses that replaced it

Maximum bet rules have tightened in the same period. A $5 cap was common in 2024; $2 and $3 caps are now normal, and a low cap on a high requirement can make an offer mathematically impractical.

Free spin winnings caps have spread too. A 300 spin package sounds generous until the terms limit the proceeds to $100.

How to read an offer quickly

Multiply the bonus by the wagering requirement, then divide by the maximum bet. The result is the number of maximum stake rounds you must play, and if that figure exceeds a few thousand inside the bonus window, the offer is not designed to be completed.

We publish that calculation in every review so the comparison does not depend on the headline percentage.
